Lexington Blue’s Ice Storm Response

In 2021, one of the worst winter storms hit the region, turning roads and driveways into dangerous sheets of ice, and bringing the city to a standstill. While many took shelter indoors, and two major news outlets were covering the story, Lexington Blue led by Rev. Dr. Brad Pagel, and 1st Lieutenant Nathan Iglehart of the U.S. Kentucky National Guard saw it as a chance to make a difference through the Love Everyone Initiative. Dr. Pagel suggested shoveling and salting driveways and walkways free of charge. Working tirelessly many many hours and for weeks the Lexington Blue team set out to help those in need, the less fortunate, the halfway homes, and the elderly.  He didn’t just assign the task—he led by example, working alongside his team, navigating snowy,  icy roads and freezing conditions to ensure the community’s safety.

A Massive Effort to Keep the Community Safe

When the ice storm hit, Lexington’s community has been trapped in homes, not only with the ice and snowy conditions, but had caused fallen branches  due to freezing temperatures, Causing the risk of injury to be heightened in the local area. Lexington Blue risked their own safety to help those in need.

Brad did not simply assign the task to his team; he actively participated, salting and shoveling driveways ensuring that no area was neglected. His hands-on leadership and commitment to the community served as a powerful driving force behind the initiative, this commitment to service transcended business; it was about making a tangible difference when it was most needed.

Brad’s vision inspired the team to persevere through the icy conditions, day and night, to reach as many homes as possible.

The Motivation Behind the Effort

This initiative was more than just a response to ice; it embodied Lexington Blue’s values of community, service, and support. The team has always believed that being part of the community means stepping up during challenging times, and the 2021 ice storm was no exception.

Lexington Blue’s vision and leadership during the storm exemplified what they stand for. Whether addressing roofing needs or salting driveways, the focus has always been on protecting the community with genuine care for its residents.

A Lasting Impact

Though the ice and snow has long since melted, the impact of that storm remains. The initiative to salt driveways served as a powerful reminder that, even in the toughest moments, effective leadership and community service can make a profound difference.

At Lexington Blue, the team takes pride in following the example set by Dr. Pagel, & 1st Lieutenant Nathan Iglehart of the U.S. Kentucky National Guard whether helping a homeowner with a roofing project or stepping up during crises.
