Lexington Blue’s Backyard Overhaul for Bob Brown House
About Bob Brown House
Lexington Blue recently met with the team at Bob Brown House and learned about its rich history. During the conversation, they discovered that it was originally founded by the current director’s father, a pastor who dedicated his life to helping those often overlooked by society. His outreach work eventually extended to supporting the blind, and he realized there was a greater need for care and understanding. This vision led to the creation of Bob Brown House, which is now run by his daughter and her children, continuing his legacy of service.

Lexington Blue’s Volunteer Efforts with Bob’s Brown House
Lexington Blue is proud to announce its volunteer project for Bob Brown House, a significant yard cleaning initiative aimed at revitalizing their outdoor space.Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Brad Pagel, Lexington Blue’s Founder and CEO, the dedicated team undertook various tasks, including the removal of unwanted trees, the clearance of massively overgrown plants and bushes, and the elimination of a large yellow jacket nest that had hindered the area’s functionality.
In addition to landscaping efforts, they addressed structural issues by repairing rotted floors and fascia on the shed, ensuring a safe and secure environment. The team also focused on revitalizing the garden beds, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and usability of the space.
As a special gesture of appreciation, Lexington Blue provided complimentary fresh mulch for all the garden beds. This addition not only improves the visual appeal but also promotes healthy plant growth and moisture retention, with the red mulch specifically helping to deter pests.
Through this collaboration, Lexington Blue Inc is thrilled to support Bob Brown House and contribute to a more inviting outdoor environment for its residents.
First Step into Progress
Lexington Blue’s first step into the project, was undertaking the challenging task of clearing the massively overgrown yard, showcasing the dedication and hard work of our staff. For hours, our team diligently worked to remove a significant wood pile that had accumulated over time. Once that was out of the way, it was time to remove trees, bushes, and overgrown vines.
As they progressed, the crew filled three dump trailers with brush, fallen trees, and branches, transforming the chaotic landscape into a clean slate. The sound of chainsaws and the rustling of leaves marked their progress as they worked tirelessly to restore the area. This project not only revitalized the outdoor space but also exemplified Lexington Blue’s commitment to enhancing the community through hard work and teamwork.
Shed Progress
While half of the team concentrated on clearing the overgrown yard, the other half split off to tackle additional projects that were equally important. One of the key areas of focus was the shed, which had fallen into disrepair over time.
Upon inspection, the team discovered several rotten spots in the floor, creating unsafe conditions for anyone trying to enter. Recognizing the potential hazards, they prioritized these repairs to ensure the safety of the structure. Additionally, the shed was missing fascia, a result of previous storms and general wear and tear. This not only detracted from the shed’s appearance but also left it vulnerable to further damage from the elements.
The team worked diligently to address these issues, replacing the rotting floorboards and installing new fascia to restore the shed to a safe and functional state. Their hard work not only improved the overall safety and aesthetics of the property but also contributed to a sense of pride in maintaining the community’s spaces.
Garden Beds
Once the team completed the extensive task of clearing out the yard and repairing the shed, they faced one final challenge: cleaning out the garden beds. At first glance, this might have seemed like a straightforward job, but the reality proved to be much more complex.
The garden beds were largely overgrown, presenting a daunting scene of tangled roots and stubborn weeds that had taken hold over the seasons. In one of the beds, the team discovered a yellow jacket nest, adding an unexpected layer of difficulty and caution to their task. Working carefully, they recognized the need to handle this situation with care to ensure both the safety of the team and the preservation of the surrounding environment.
As they approached the other beds, the sheer volume of roots and weeds required thorough digging and meticulous effort. The team put their skills to the test, using shovels and hand tools to meticulously remove the invasive plants while being mindful not to disturb any existing flora that could still thrive. With teamwork and determination, they worked methodically through each garden bed, restoring them to a blank slate.
No Time Wasted
While waiting for the dump trailer to return after emptying its loads and for the delivery of new mulch to complete the property’s overall look, the Lexington Blue team didn’t let the downtime go to waste. Instead of pausing their efforts, they proactively sought out additional tasks that needed attention around the property.
As a roofing company, the team has a keen eye for detail, which allowed them to spot several areas of concern on the roof of the building. Recognizing the importance of maintaining a safe and secure structure, they decided to take action. A few of their most experienced team members were dispatched to the roof to conduct a thorough inspection.
Once on the roof, the team carefully examined various components, including the vents, siding, and gutters. They assessed the integrity of the shingles, looking for any signs of wear or damage that could lead to potential leaks or further complications down the line. Their thorough approach ensured that no detail was overlooked, as they understood the critical role the roof plays in protecting the entire property.
After completing the inspection, they compiled their findings and discussed any necessary repairs or maintenance that would help extend the life of the roof and enhance the overall integrity of the structure. This initiative not only demonstrated Lexington Blue’s commitment to quality but also underscored their dedication to serving the community by ensuring that every aspect of the property was in top shape. By staying productive and focused on these additional tasks, the team exemplified the values of hard work and thoroughness that are at the core of Lexington Blue’s mission.
The Last Step
The final step in supporting Bob Brown House was the application of fresh mulch to all the garden beds, a crucial task that would enhance the visual appeal and health of the plants. With a fresh layer of mulch, the garden beds would not only look inviting but also provide essential nutrients to the soil while helping to retain moisture during dry spells.
As the team set to work, they carefully spread the mulch evenly across each bed, taking care to ensure that it complemented the existing areas. This attention to detail was important, as it not only improved the aesthetics but also contributed to the overall health of the yard.
After laying the mulch, the team turned their attention to tidying up the area. They meticulously raked up any small leaves and branches that had fallen during their earlier work, ensuring that the space looked pristine. This cleanup effort was essential, as it helped maintain the neatness of the property and demonstrated their commitment to leaving the space in the best possible condition.
Once the garden was looking its finest, the team began the process of putting away all the tools and equipment used throughout the project. They carefully organized everything, making sure that each item was returned to its proper place. This step not only helped keep the workspace orderly but also ensured that all tools were well-maintained for future projects.
Finally, the Lexington Blue team took a moment to step back and assess their hard work. They felt a sense of pride in knowing that they had left the property as clean and inviting as possible. Their efforts had transformed not just the garden beds but the entire outdoor space, making it a more welcoming environment for the residents of Bob Brown House.
In the end, this project was a testament to Lexington Blue’s dedication to community service and commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those they serve.
